Kitts Cottage Campsite

An unspoilt campsite in the heart of Sussex

Kitts Cottage Camp...some history

Kitts Cottage may be a slightly strange name to call a camp site. However, before the Second World War, there was an ancient dwelling here, which was always known as Kitts Cottage. Although there are hardly any signs of it today, the glade in which the cottage was and in which the camp site is based, covers some 2 acres, and is called Little Kitts. The surrounding 11 acres of pasture is known as Long Kitts.

We shall probably never know whether Kitts was a family or just a place name. However, the site of the old dwelling was obviously hand picked by someone, who not only appreciated its beauty and seclusion but was attracted by the shelter of the woodlands that in turn surround Long Kitts to the East , South and West.

Today, these woodlands are criss-crossed with Public Footpaths, which is not only very convenient for The Sloop, they provide visitors with access to a vast array of footpaths, walks and rides which allows them to explore the beauty and solitude of the local countryside.
