Kitts Cottage Campsite

An unspoilt campsite in the heart of Sussex

The Kitts Camping Code

Kitts is a rural and unspoilt campsite and because it is such a special place, our aim is to have as little impact on the immediate environment as possible.

Rules of the Site
Opening Hours and Access
Vehicle Access to Kitts will only be available between 8am and 9pm

Earliest Check in time is 3pm and check out time is 11am sharp. It may be possible to stay longer on Sunday's (until 3pm) but will be at the discretion of the management.

The woods that surround Kitts do not belong to us and although there are plentiful footpaths, anyone found trespassing away from the footpaths or stealing wood will be asked to leave.

We cannot accept responsibility for your possessions or any personal injury sustained while camping or using campfires. That includes any apparatus, such as rope swings, that may from time be present on site, or any activities that could result in injury. There are two areas that can hold open water, one fenced, one unfenced. Visitors must make themselves aware of these areas and ensure that their charges are aware of them and supervised at all times.

There are Mains Water and Fire Safety Points dotted conveniently through the site (see map). Visitors must make themselves aware where they are and how they should be used in the event of an emergency.

If it is necessary for the Emergency Services to be called, they should be provided with the following Grid Reference TQ39230889. The full Postal Address is Kitts Cottage Campsite, Butterbox Lane entrance, Freshfield Place Farm, Scaynes Hill, West Sussex RH17 7NP

On Site Help
In the first instance please speak to James on 07733 103309. If his mobile is unavailable, ring The Sloop Inn on 01444 831219 and ask for him there. Failing that, there is a telephone number posted on the notice board on the Field Barn with further contact detail for that week's Emergency Supervisor.

Kitts Camping Code

Respect the Environment
Kitts is a rural and unspoilt campsite and because it is such a special place, our aim is to have as little impact on the immediate environment as possible.

Access
While there is good access for cars and small camper vans, we are not able to accommodate any larger vehicles. We therefore cannot offer places to Motor Homes or Caravans.

Rubbish
We do not have rubbish facilities on site and we ask that all visitors take their rubbish away with them. There are re-cycling facilities nearby.

To Offset our Carbon Footprint, we planted 2300 trees in 2011. They will be vulnerable in their first few years and will have the best chance of survival if they are left completely undisturbed. Please make your children aware of this.

Respect for other campers is paramount in our family orientated campsite. Booking is therefore exclusive to respectable campers. We reserve the right of admission without compensation.

In our experience lack of respect for fellow campers is almost always associated with the mismanagement of alcohol. If heavy consumption is a part of your camping ideal - please do not book at Kitts.

Dogs must be kept on leads. We do not allow certain breeds on site; Pit Bull terriers, Rottweilers and Alsatians, or any other dog which has aggressive behaviour. We reserve the rights to ask you to leave if your dog has anti-social behaviour.

We welcome and honour unplugged or acoustic musicians around the campfire. All instruments and noise to stop by half past 11 latest.
No bongos or drums. No stereo's/ radio's. Strictly no open air, plugged in music.

Respect our Neighbours

The woods that surround Kitts do not belong to us (see Map) and although there are plentiful footpaths, on which you are free to walk, anyone found trespassing away from the footpaths or stealing wood will be asked to leave.

Finally, please take care on the local roads. It is a rural area and there could be horses, dogs, people or children around any corner. The safe speed limit on narrow roads is well under 30 miles per hour. When you need to pass a vehicle, people or animals, please give them a wide berth, and do so as slowly and safely as possible.

Many thanks

The Countryside Code
Be safe, plan ahead and follow any signs
Leave gates and property as you find them
Protect plants and animals and take your litter home
Keep dogs under close control
Consider other people

However, while there is good access for cars and camper vans, we are not able to accomodate any larger vehicles. We therefore cannot offer places to Motor Homes or Caravans.

We want everyone to have a good time, so while we welcome accoustic music , we do not allow the playing of non-accoustic music through speakers - including car radios (or drums either please) at any time.

As dog lovers, we want to continue welcoming the well-behaved dogs of responsible owners, but we must insist that they are kept on a lead at all times. That not only prevents unexpected calling cards from being cleared up, but means that local walkers, children and wildlife are protected from any excess enthusiasm.

With so many footpaths available to us, we ask all our visitors to respect "The Countryside Code". Copies of which are on the noticeboard in Little Kitts. Most footpaths are through private land, which means that if you stray from them, you will be trespassing. Remember, anything that is taken from that land, flowers, wood etc. is stealing.

Although we are very conveniently situated, the last few miles to Kitts can be confusing, particularly if you use Sat Nav. Please use a map when you turn off a main road and print off the full and detailed instructions that are on this website (Directions). Using Sat Nav will get you lost because country post codes tend to cover a much wider area!

If you do get lost, please ring us. Please do not knock on anyone's door to ask directions. By all means ask a passer by, at a garage, shop or pub, but it is really unfair to expect householders to help you. You could also try entering our ordanace survey code into your sat nav (TQ39230889).

Finally, please take care on the roads approaching Kitts. It is a rural area and there could be horses, dogs, people or children around any corner. The safe speed limit on narrow roads is well under 30 miles per hour. When you neeed to pass a vehicle, people or animals, please give them a wide berth, and do so as slowly and safely as possible.

Many thanks
