Closest is the shop at the BP garage in Scaynes Hill. A warm welcome for Kitts Campers is assured and they sell all the normal garage stuff, but in a very friendly manner! Turn left out of the drive and stay straight until you hit the A272 and its 30 yards left (5 mins).
The Murco garage at Chailey has a slightly bigger shop, and you can have a quick drink at The Kings Head to celebrate your return to civilisation. They also have Sky and show a lot of footie, so die-hards can time their journey appropriately - and earn brownie points at the same time. Turn left out of the drive, left after 100 yds (into Butterbox Lane), right at the end, right again at roundabout (7 mins).
Using the same route, go past Murco, 1st left after Chailey Heritage, over crossroads and then first left is Townings Farm Shop. It's down quite a long drive, but the organic meat they sell (and it's very popular) is scrummy. Properly hung, all home reared and proper Butchers. You won't get better steaks - and their pork and lamb are to die for!
One of our favourite organic shops is a Deli called Heavenly Organics. They are based at Heaven Farm, just north of us on the A275 (well sign posted). They sell a wide variety of organic products, milk and bread and Kitts campers always get a warm welcome. Heaven Farm also sell cream teas and have a craft shop - about ten minutes drive. The easiest route is actually 3 miles past The Sloop (leave it on your right), turn right onto the A275 at Danehill and its on the right as you drive south. Return via Ketches Lane (opposite The Elephants) to complete a loop.
You can take the same route to another Farm Shop called The Old Dairy, which is slightly further south than Heaven Farm. Smaller signage this time, so keep your eyes peeled, but perseverance is worth it. Everything they sell is home grown, so food miles (and fancy packaging) are things for the future! This is a local Farm Shop at its best.
The Elephants (you'll see why when you get there) is actually called Trading Boundaries and is a series of shops around a courtyard and in one of the most striking houses in our part of Sussex. You can't buy any basics, but they serve coffee, light lunches and teas in an exceptionally nice cafe. It has a play area and you can take in an eclectic range of goods which range from deep leather sofas to useful gifts. Its at the end of Ketches Lane on the A275, so take a right ,passing the Sloop, a right at the staggered junction into Ketches Lane - keep going.
Nearest smallish supermarket is a Spar in Lindfield (about 10 mins). Drive past The Sloop, left at staggered junction (signs to Paxhill Golf Club). At T junction turn right to Lindfield, follow your nose. If you ever fancy a Thai take-away, (or meal) turn left at The Spar T junction and White Horse (01444 482251) is on left. Pub take-aways are normally a bit ...you know! But this is an exception - promise. Ring your order through first, have a quick drink for final few minutes, back at Kitts ten minutes later. You know it makes sense!
